Skill Up to Earn Your Career of Choice
The Supply and demand situation in the job market is heavily skewed. A huge supply of educated but unemployed youth is constantly flooding the market place. In the next few weeks there will be a quantum jump in the number of job seekers with exam results coming in, while a huge positive change in employment trends is as unlikely as ever.
So, what does one do to ensure fulfilling the dream of a career in one's chosen field ?
In such a scenario, there are still a number of things one can do to achieve success in securing a job.
Some of them are given below:
1. LEARN MORE:
It's now an open secret that students coming out of most colleges are either under skilled or completely unprepared to even be considered by most good companies with the quality of education in institutions taking a nose dive (due to a number of reasons) across sectors.
What To Do: Once you acknowledge this fact; that you are under skilled or unprepared for a career in your chosen field; act on this knowledge and learn the skills critical to your success in acquiring your job of choice. Invest some time and convert your weaknesses into strengths and sharpen your strengths to make them potent.
2. STOP BEING CHOOSY
It's again a fact that organizations are not willing to give too many chances to freshers with average skills, and slowly but surely; in a majority of sectors; employers are beginning to show more and more faith in experience as compared to inexperience.
What To Do: All you can do is take a decision a little early and join a decent company which provides opportunities to learn. Remember , as your career progresses the chances to grow inorganically and earn lots of money will always come, but not if you are incapable of delivering the goods. To be in a position to earn later, you must learn now!
3. DO ONE THING AT A TIME:
Although a lot has been said about multitasking and its benefits, no one can practically do two different thing successfully for an extended period of time. The best jobs are done with laser sharp focus and present moment action.
What To Do: Pin point one thing that you want to do and go after it like no tomorrow. Use no half measures. Become flexible in that one area which is most important to you. Make all the adjustments, sacrifices and efforts in the direction of that one single thing. If you need to take a lower salary so be it. If you have to sign a reasonable bond , do it,.
What ever you do remember you have to impress the employer before he or she signs your offer letter. So your performance in the interview is all that matter. Your skills, your strengths your preparedness, and worthiness all will be tested.
Learning the skills that matter will matter in the end.
If you are worthy it will show. If you are worthless it will show!

Planning to do your MBA ...? Read This First ! !
What should I do after graduation?
This is probably top most in your mind if you have just competed graduation.
What should my son/ daughter do post graduation? Further studies? MBA? A Job?
These questions may be at the core of your parents thoughts!
What is the right answer?
There could be a number of right answers depending upon the situation, aptitude and major goals in the mind of the student and his or her parents.
But is MBA the right solution....?
This statement raises more questions than answers.
So , lets find out.
For starters, I would like to bring your attention to a news article from "The Times of India" dated Sunday , May 1st , 2016.
The heading thus read, " 7% MBAs Employable : Study "
ASSOCHAM finds fresh Graduates Earn Less Than Rs. 10,000/- a Month
The news article continues with lots of information and I place before you the key points:
- Most of the 5500 B-Schools in the country produce sub-par graduates largely un-employable
- Only graduate from IIMs are an exception
- Main reasons of this disaster are poor faculty, low paying jobs, lack of quality control
- 220 B-Schools Shut Down in past two years: 120 more will soon do the same
- Campus Recruitments have come down by 45%
- Asssocham Secretary Mr DS Rawat said among other things, and I quote" The quality of higher education in India is poor and does not in any way meet the needs of the corporate world."
- Although an MBA student spends between Rs. 3.00 to Rs. 5.00 lacs for an MBA degree in 2 years , he or she earns only between Rs. 8000/- to Rs. 10000/- per month.
- There is a large Mismatch between aspirations of students and their level of job readiness
So, what's the solution?
Well , once again , there could be many.
Let's see how one can logically come to a workable conclusion.
1. Remember you always have options and choices
MBA is not the one and only degree that could help you find a job. There are numerous options.
The internet could be a place suitable to do a quick fire research on options. You could also consider speaking to a qualified counsellor or some one with relevant experience for professional advice.
2. Find out what is it that you are good at.
Before going deeper into the different options one has, it would make proper sense to first do some introspection( this is for both the parents and the students to do) . Find out what are the strengths and weaknesses of the student and what does he or she really want to do. You could also go for an aptitude test to determine your true calling.
3. Decide from the collection of information
Once you are aware of the different options available as well as your corresponding strengths and weaknesses make the right choice . For an example there are quite a few training programs available to day where the candidate pays for the training and the organization gives top priority to the trained candidates. The cost of training is very low compared to an MBA and the skills acquired are aimed at getting employed.
So , my advise would be not to go headlong into any B school hoping for things to be better for yourself while all else is doomed. Instead adjust your sales and beat a different path to success.
In case your aim is to work for a reputed organisation in the banking , finance, services, insurance sector we may have an excellent option for you to consider.

Top Three Skills for Success in a Call Centre Career
Every occupation, every career and every job
requires the person working to have specific skill. A call centre requires a
set of skills and abilities which are quite different from; say, a sales or engineering
career.
Call centres are basically business centre which
have large phone facilities to receive incoming and make outgoing calls. The
call centre may provide customer service or tech support for its mother
organization or other outside client or sell some or the other product or
service. So, the employees of call centre are expected to be sharp, prepared
and efficient in their daily routine. They must have the ability to stay calm
and follow set patterns of work on a regular hourly, daily, weekly basis.
Finally the typical call centre employee is one who
enjoys talking to people on the phone. So, here is a short list of three critical character
traits, skills and abilities one must possess to succeed in a call centre
career:
Excellent Communication Skills with Superior
Listening Skills
The ability to speak well in the language of use,
and also; the ability to listen to understand; is essential for a successful
career in call centre. To handle calls effectively making sure that the proper
information is received or provided in such a way that both the caller; as well
as you; yourself understand the issue. What this means is that you must have an
even, pleasing and easy to understood voice, coupled with the ability to listen
and to understand the verbal indicators of tone and mood of the caller on the
other side of the line.
Most of the time, good listening skills are of much
more important compared to good speaking skills. Listening; in such a way as
too make the irate caller become calm, as well as making it possible for you to
understand the problem. An angry caller may want to vent out his or her
frustration or for that matter even to share a complex issue or problem. A
successful communication would involve listening to the caller and also asking
question pertinent to the problems and then giving the proper facts to the
caller.
It’s also exceedingly important to have
multilingual skills. People who have the ability to communicate in more than
one local or international language with English are an asset to any call
centre and thus highly sought after.
Patience
People
who are angry, unsatisfied with a particular product or service more often than
not call up the call centre for a suitable solution. Many of these persons are
frustrated and agitated and tend to become highly aggressive in their
communication. You as the customer care executive must shoe maturity, patience
and understanding in dealing with such frustrated callers. Remain calm and
listening to their side of the story with total patience is the only option you
have. Once you are able to understand the issue you can easily provide the
person with a proper solution or else direct him or her to the person who can
help.
Quick & Clear Thinking with Persuasion Skills
A call
centre position in sales; many times requires the ability to think clearly and
quickly to not only handle objections and queries but also to persuade the
caller or customer on the other side of the line to accept your offer. So both
these traits clear thinking and the ability to persuade would be simultaneously
into called to action.

Eight Ways to Impress Your Boss : Simplified Career Solutions
The success
or failure of a person in his or her career largely depends on three things:
- Your performance
- How well you use the opportunities that come your way
- Your relationship with your boss
Now, your
performance and your reaction or actions towards opportunities that knock on
your door are a couple of things that are more or less in your control. You can
improve your performance whenever you discover that something needs to be done,
similarly if you don’t make good use of a couple of opportunities to do better
in your career you can always pay more attention and ensure that the next set of opportunities are better
utilized.
But the one
thing which is not fully under you control is how or what other people in your
organization think about you, especially your boss. If your boss is on your
side your career may take an upward direction otherwise the opposite direction
could be a possibility too.
Also, a
majority of people quit their jobs and hurt their own careers, just because
they are unable to ‘handle’ their bosses.
So, it would be fair to say that the boss is one person who could make
life easy or difficult for you.
Here are
ten things you can do to ensure peace in the work place, the full support of
your boss and hence safety for your career:
- The one’ most important’ thing to do to impress your boss is that you not only show but take full responsibility for your own performance. You take ownership of your job profile and always complete your work as per priority of the organization.
- Ensure that whatever you do, do in such a way that directly or indirectly the impact on your boss is positive. If you make your boss look good he or she will do things for you otherwise difficult to imagine.
- Align your daily routine is such a way that you are able to prioritize all you work in line with your bosses focus area and the organizations short term goals.
- Be clear in your communication and make it a point to provide time bound feedback to your boss. You see, most people do not like to give feedback due to various reasons; ego being one of the main culprits; hence in case you do this important thing, you stand out in good light.
- Whenever you go to your boss with a problem ensure you have a solution to the problem as well. People like those who have solutions to problems not just problems.
- Maintain proper discipline at all times. Reach your work place on time and complete your assignments in time.
- Whenever you find your boss overloaded with work or facing any problem; be available take new responsibilities and help to share the burden.
- Never talk ill of any of your colleagues or co-workers. Never try to put other people down.
Do
these few things consistently and ensure the complete cooperation of your boss
in making your career successful.

10 reasons you should learn to speak in English!
Ludwig Wittgenstein; an Austrian-British
philosopher who dedicated his life to study the philosophy of mathematics, the philosophy
of mind, and most importantly the philosophy of language once said , and I quote;
“The limits of my language mean
the limits of my world.”
In today’s flat world, where
business boundaries are a blur and the global market is racing towards being a
single entity, the ability to use English has become of paramount importance.
Here I list the 10 most
compelling reasons for every person to learn and master the use of English:
- English is used as the official national language of over 50 countries globally, and in more than a 140 other countries it is the education and business language of choice. So most of the world uses English as a common mode of communication
- The best universities in the world use English as the main language for teaching and learning
- The largest and most diverse literature in all spheres of life is available in English alone
- Most of the critical as well as most advanced subjects in education like western medicine, rocket tech, software, nuclear tech and many more are available in English and only English
- English is understood , if not spoken in almost every region of the world
- Most employment opportunities, growth opportunities and international business hinges mostly on the knowledge and ability to communicate effectively in English
- The ability to communicate in English has now become a status symbol and its lack leaves a person psychologically low on confidence
- In today’s world of social media and networking English is the one and only means of communication which give you the single largest platform to socially network.
- Exceedingly more and more organizations in local markets, like their international counterparts; are giving preference to those job seekers who can express themselves with ease in English
- The skill, knowledge and ability to communicate well in English gives a person an edge over others in all spheres of life
So it only makes
good sense to master English and thus master your destiny!

Series : Lessons in Self Management 4
Execution….it’s the final word, when it comes to success.
It’s the
only thing which separates the successful from the unsuccessful.
Without
execution all planning, all education, all information, all knowledge, all new
ideas, all strategy is a waste of time, energy and effort.
You may have a great idea, a solid plan and all the resources in the universe at your disposal, but if you don't take the step forward do the hard work , take the difficult decisions and make things happen, or rather execute your plans in the market place or where ever you are headed to, there is going to be no success.
So, suppose you are the main strike bowler in your cricket team. The bowling coach sits with your for endless hours and comes up with a plan to dismiss the best batsmen in the opposition team . He shows you the weaknesses of the opponent and makes you practice bowling to the batsman on his weak spots. You do well during the practice sessions but don't go the extra mile.
Now during the match you somehow are unable to replicate what you did during the practice. You do not follow everything like you practiced. Maybe because you didn't put your heart and soul during the practice sessions you were not perfect in delivery.
In short, your execution was not up to the mark and the batsman hammers you around the park.
As Peter Drucker once said, and I quote, "Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work.”
Execution requires single minded, focused effort that is followed up to the point of completion.
So to succeed, tighten your belt, get ready to go the extra mile and prepare to implement your plans to the point of completion.
